How long does it take an architect to develop plans?
I’m planning a two-story extension on my house and I got an architect to measure and agree on plans. This was six weeks ago. Have not heard a thing so far. Should I worry and what can I say?
Hello. Architects can take some time, depending on the job to be done. For a two- story extension, it should not take too long though. I’d give it as much as 2 months, then ask them, but politely. My proposed wording would be along the lines of: “Dear [name] I was wondering what the current situation is re: the design of the extension of my house. I have no idea how long these things normally take, but I’m starting to worry to have not heard from you for two months. I apologize if I expect things much too early, because of my limited knowledge of the construction industry, but I’d appreciate it if you could reassure me and let me know what progress has been made. Many Thanks …
PS .After reading comments from someone else: I should add a bit so you understand what is involved: The architect will not only decide how it looks, but then determine where additional services (ie plumbing, electricity) should go, and get a structural engineer (like me) to make sure it will not fall down!

It’s Complicated $6.16 It’s delightful to see Meryl Streep come into her own as a romantic comedian in her later career years–after all the accolades, the Oscars, the serious-as-marble dramatic roles. Streep is in fact a true cutup, as she has demonstrated in films like Mamma Mia and Julie & Julia–and she gets the guy. So if Nancy Meyers’s It’s Complicated is perhaps a bit facile in the plot department, it’s saved by … |
