How long does it take an architect to develop plans?
I’m planning a two-story extension on my house and I got an architect to measure and agree on plans. This was six weeks ago. Have not heard a thing so far. Should I worry and what can I say?
Hello. Architects can take some time, depending on the job to be done. For a two- story extension, it should not take too long though. I’d give it as much as 2 months, then ask them, but politely. My proposed wording would be along the lines of: “Dear [name] I was wondering what the current situation is re: the design of the extension of my house. I have no idea how long these things normally take, but I’m starting to worry to have not heard from you for two months. Many Thanks …
PS .After reading comments from someone else: I should add a bit so you understand what is involved: The architect will not only decide how it looks, but then determine where additional services (ie plumbing, electricity) should go, and get a structural engineer (like me) to make sure it will not fall down!
