Get real about the design of business cards

Ever gotten a copy of one of the Best of Business Card Design "books? Most filled with glossy images of business cards in a "special material" using "innovative printing techniques? Well I recognize that it can be fun – and occasionally instructive – to peruse these models winning card, I think that these books often confuse business owners more than they help.

How?

By promoting the notion that a card must be radically different, modern and expensive to be effective.

It is time to get real!

"Cool" does not sell your product. "Trendy" does not pay the bills. And "Wow, what a beautiful card!" It's flattering, but hardly a guarantee of income. You already seen one of these Super Bowl ads cost TV, where then you can remember the commercial, but have not the slightest idea what product it was promotion?

So what is "good enough?

Your card must be attractive. It should look professional, be of standard size and weight, color and use, catching the eye, and be quite different from your competitors to make your card stand out but not so different as you seem out of touch.

Your business card must be legible. No tiny text. Not crazy mishmash of fonts. No blocked phone numbers or food stains shabby. Each word should be there for a reason, chosen with care for beneficiaries given a reason to remember and encourage them to use your product or services.

This means that the cards should also be focused on the client. Although a business card contains your business name and address, its purpose is that is unless you show your potential customer that you understand their needs and your business can respond.

A business card design which is "good enough" may seem somewhat different from that used by other similar professions. But if it goes beyond the business card typically include information to reassure or inform prospects (such as testimonials, hours, special services or solutions to common problems), it will certainly outperform a card amateur but less focused on the customer.

And we must beware of "Get Real" on what a business card is and what it can do. Yes, it is a powerful marketing weapon. But c'mon, it's a 2.5 "3.25" piece of paper. No piece of paper, no matter how innovative or elegant, can replace an instinctive aversion leads to a seller who is arrogant, indifferent, or completely clueless. You can see that people like your card and you can not keep enough air in your wallet – but if you 've never heard people give you, there is something wrong.

After all, there are plenty of performers superstar using bland, impersonal business cards generated by the company with remarkable results.

In the hands of a representative Company personable and articulate who really wants to Listen to what a prospective customer, a card good enough job "better than the dream of a graphic card every time.
